There really isn’t any dissenting opinion in the scientific community about global warming, the facts speak for themselves (RENT An Inconvenient Truth). A report is due to be filed today from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, basically saying that we need to do something now.
The Oil companies hate this idea, because fossil fuels account for most of the CO2 emissions, they want to keep reporting record earnings.
Excerpt : “Scientists and economists have been offered $10,000 each by a lobby group funded by one of the world’s largest oil companies to undermine a major climate change report due to be published today.”
So if the facts don’t support your opinion or business model, bribe someone to make shit up.
Of course the lobby group has strong ties to the Bush administration, the administration that REFUSED to ratify the Kyoto accords.
It boggles the mind that we would not be doing everything we can to preserve the planet we have to live on, the economic damages from global warming FAR outweigh the cost of fighting it, yet corporations and governments refuse to take measures.
WAKE UP!

I’m sure most people have heard about the Boston Mooninites scandal. I’d have to say that this is kind of scary. Not that these guys put out Mooninites to promote Aqua Teen Hunger Force, but that the American people are so “worried/scared shitless” about terrorism that an LED rendered image of a 80’s video game character would generate a terror alert. This is going to get to the point that if you drop your Hardees bag in an unapproved container the bomb squad is going to get called out.
Two, what I would call scapegoats, face prison time for the stunt. I’d consider the Downy bear a more likely terrorist suspect, that thing scares the bejesus out of me.

Al Franken has “unofficially” decided to make a run for the Senate in 2008. Although no official announcement has been made, the AP is reporting that Franken told a senior Democratic official that he is indeed running for the Minnesota senate seat currently held by 1st term Republican senator Norm Coleman, who is apparently one of the Democrats top targets.
I think this is great, make all the Stuart Smalley comments you like, Franken is informed, articulate and probably has a better understanding of what goes on that most people in the Senate or House.
This is also the state that had a governor with a quoted middle name (Jesse “the mind” Ventura, aka Jesse “the body” Ventura)
Good Luck Al
